Proven Health and Beauty Benefits of Vitamin D

          1.) Stronger Bones:

According to researchers, vitamin D is vital for regulating calcium and phosphorus levels in the blood. The combination of the two elements is crucial for keeping our bones strong. When supplementing with vitamin D, the intestines absorb and reclaim calcium, preventing them from excretion by the kidneys. The absorbed calcium keeps the bones strong and lowers the risk of getting rickets, especially for low-immunity people.

          2.) Smooth and Healthy Skin:

Why are vitamin D supplements highly revered among the aging population and people with skin conditions? The answer is simple; because they keep the skin healthy and have anti-aging properties. Excess exposure to sunlight can cause a sunburn or trigger skin cancer, which has caused many to try vitamin D supplements.

3.) For Pregnant and Lactating Mothers:

Vitamin D deficiency in expectant mothers can be fatal since it increases the risk of developing preeclampsia. When a pregnant mother takes enough vitamin D, her health rises significantly. Additionally, when the mother gives birth, the baby’s possibility of developing a food allergy goes down significantly.

          4.) Flu Prevention

According to a study conducted in 2018, researchers established that vitamin D supplements could prevent the flu. There is little information on the efficacy of this treatment, but the preliminary results are promising.

          5.) Hypertension Support

Inadequate vitamin D increases the risk of developing high blood pressure. Several studies have shown that vitamin D deficiency causes the arterial walls to become stiff, increasing the risk of developing several cardiovascular diseases.

The development of vitamin D supplements has come in handy, given the high cases of cardiovascular diseases. You can take the supplements frequently to boost your immunity and lower the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.

          6.) Weight Reduction

An experiment carried out in 2009 showed that vitamin D supplements were effective in reducing weight. During the investigation, several obese women were put under calcium and vitamin D supplement. After the experiment, researchers found that the combination suppressed appetite, leading to weight loss.

If you are worried about your heart’s health and proper functioning, it may be time for you to include Omega 3s in your diet.

It has become rather common knowledge that Omega 3s can help reduce the chances for your exposure to heart problems. However, it is interesting to gain further information about Omega 3s and how they reduce the risk of a heart attack in a person.

What is Omega 3s?

Omega 3s are a form of unsaturated fatty acids that help reduce inflammation from all over the body. Inflammation existing in the body carries the potential to damage the person’s blood vessels and cause heart strokes or diseases.

Omega 3s combat all the anti-inflammatory viruses or bacteria existing in the human body (Cuenoud et al., 2020). The United States Food and Drug Administration recommends fish to their patients as a part of their healthy diet. The reason for recommending fish in the diet is that there is a high amount of Omega 3s existing in fish, which is suitable for individuals looking to avoid heart risks (Gutstein & Copple, 2017).

There are various manners by which Omega 3s directly reduces the heart risk for a person. For example, it decreases the level of triglycerides in the body, lowers blood pressure, reduces clotting in the blood, and helps with irregular breaks in heart operations.

Can Omega 3s Help in Reducing Health Risks?

About 50-70% of individuals experiencing cardiovascular issues tend to experience arthritis issues as well. Omega 3s can also help in preventing arthritis. Omega 3s tend to combat effectively with the molecules or substances related to inflammation, and due to the same reason, they can reduce the inflammation in the joints of a person, improving their level of mobilization.

It is imperative to mention that Omega 3s are most commonly found in 100% pure marine fish oil. Various drug companies incorporate 100% standardized marine fish oil extracts to use Omega 3s for patients suffering from heart risk and joint pains (Cuenoud et al., 2020).

Overall, if you are looking to reduce cardiovascular and full-body inflammation issues for yourself, you must regularly integrate Omega 3s into your diet.

As someone once said, “health is wealth.” No matter how many gold mines you own, you can enjoy nothing if you are not healthy. Whole-body wellness is essential to go through all the experiences of life. Our bodies need many elements and substances for normal functioning, and nature has many sources to provide us with these necessities.

Nowadays, far too many people have weak bones and joints, they experience pain, and they have dull, unhealthy skin. Read on, and we’ll learn 7 all-natural substances for healthy skin and bones. We’ll also go through some of the best sources to get 100% standardised extracts of these substances with high absorption through the gut.

1. Curcumin From Turmeric For Healthy Joints

You may know turmeric to be a spice in curry. Indian culture has always enjoyed its benefits by spicing every meal they cook with it. Modern research starts to back up what Indians have known for centuries. Curcumin is the main component from turmeric with immense medicinal benefits. Recent research has shown that curcumin has significant anti-inflammatory properties. It is very beneficial for joint pain, arthritis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. It prevents the inflammation in joints helping relieve severe joint pain. A 2012 research showed that curcumin was more effective than many anti-inflammatory drugs (without any side effect) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Bonus Tip: Taking turmeric with black pepper (piperine) increases the bioavailability of curcumin in the gut. It is piperine from black pepper which makes high absorption of curcumin possible.

2. Boswellia Serrata For Healthy Joints

Boswellia is a 100% standardised extract from a tree boswellia serrata. It has immense anti-inflammatory properties. Research found that boswellic acids are the main components responsible for the herb’s anti-inflammatory properties. A 2003 study showed all 30 people with osteoarthritis (OA) who took boswellia reported a significant decrease in knee pain. New study supports the fact that using 100% standardised extract of boswellia for OA is very effective and has no side effects as compared to many other anti-inflammatory drugs.

3. Vitamin D For Healthy Bones

Vitamin D is very essential for bone health. Its primary function is to increase calcium absorption from the gut and to incorporate calcium into bones for their strength. Without vitamin D, bones lose their density and strength, and get brittle and more prone to fractures. According to a controlled study, people with vitamin D deficiency are twice as likely to suffer from leg, back, and joint pain as compared to those with normal vitamin D levels.

4. Calcium For Healthy Bones

Calcium is the most important mineral for healthy bones. It is the core element that strengthens the bones and makes them dense. Calcium is found in many natural foods. Body calcium levels tend to decrease as humans age. Many studies have suggested that, in postmenopausal women, taking calcium supplements reduces bone density loss by 1-2%.

5. Magnesium For Healthy Bones

Magnesium is also necessary for bone health. It helps in calcium crystal formation in bones. A 2013 research has linked adequate magnesium supplements intake with high bone density, increased calcium crystal formation in bones, and a lower risk of  osteoporosis in women after menopause.

6. Collagen For Healthy Skin

Collagen is the building block of skin. It helps maintain skin integrity and rigidity. As humans age, collagen levels lessen in the skin, which is the main reason for wrinkled and loose looking skin. In a 2013 study, women who took up to 5 grams of collagen supplements for eight weeks reported less dryness and more elasticity in their skin as compared to those who didn’t take collagen supplements.

7. Vitamin C & E For Healthy Skin

Vitamin C and E possess significant antioxidative properties. Topical supplements of vitamin C and E are very beneficial for our skin health. They help our skin fight-off the oxidative radicals which otherwise can cause premature aging of the skin. According to a research study, vitamin C prevents skin dryness, protects it from UV damage, inhibits wrinkle formation and promotes wound healing in the skin. It also inhibits inflammation in the skin. Vitamin E also helps with anti-aging, protects from sun damage, inhibits inflammation in the skin, improves wound healing, and helps manage eczema, psoriasis, and other skin diseases.

The most common human musculoskeletal condition and a leading cause of disability in elderly populations around the world is osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative age-related disease affecting the joints. Osteoarthritis symptoms include discomfort, morning stiffness, and swelling of the joint, reduced range of motion, diminished physical activity, limitation of social activities, and/or impaired work capacity. Clinically recommended dosages of some natural extracts can help in reducing these symptoms.

All-Natural Supplements for Joint Pain Relief

          1.) Curcumin

Curcumin (diferuloylmethane) has been identified as a potent anti-inflammatory agent and is a bright yellow chemical extracted from the turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) rhizome. Many clinical trials have tested the clinical effectiveness of curcumin in osteoarthritis [1]. A 2006 study showed that turmeric was more effective in preventing joint inflammation than in reducing joint inflammation. A 2010 clinical study found that in 100 patients with knee OA, a turmeric supplement named Meriva (standardized to 75% curcumin in combination with phosphatidylcholine) provided long-term improvement in pain and function [2].

          2.) Boswellia Serrata

The gum-resin extract of Boswellia serrata Roxb. Ex Celebr. Celebr. The tree is used for the treatment of asthma, rheumatism, dysentery, skin ailments, ulcers, blood purification, etc. in Ayurvedic medicine. Boswellia’s anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic activities are largely due to Boswellic acid. The results of several randomized, placebo-controlled trials of different Boswellia serrata extracts indicate that alternative treatments for the management of osteoarthritis may be successful and secure [1]. Current medicine and pharmacology emphasize its use as an anti-arthritic, anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperlipidemia (blood lipid control), antiatherosclerotic (anti-coronary plaque), analgesic (pain reliever) and hepatoprotective (liver protection) care [3].

          3.) Ginger Root

Ginger root supposed ability to minimize inflammation, swelling, and pain is one of the many health statements attributed to ginger. [6]-gingerol, a dried ginger extract, and a dried gingerol-enriched extract, have all been reported to have potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Ginger has been proposed to be protective against inflammation, rheumatism, and osteoarthritis. Nevertheless, inconsistencies in clinical trials have led to controversy about the efficacy and protection of ginger for arthritis care [4].

          4.) Omega 369

Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are two kinds of omega-3 fatty acids present in fish oil. Inflammation that causes swelling and pain can be minimized by EPA and DHA. The Research Trusted Source has shown that both acids could suppress the immune system of the body. A 2016 study Trusted Source, however, indicates that instead, DHA could boost immune function. DHA is more effective than EPA in reducing inflammation, but there is a role for both [5].

           5.) Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronate is a ubiquitous molecule with a high molecular weight that exists naturally within the cartilage and synovial fluid. Its joint functions include lubrication, acting as a space filler to enable the joint to remain open, and controlling cellular activities such as protein binding. Studies have shown that both local injections and oral HA supplementation, especially for those with early osteoarthritis, can combat OA symptoms [6].

          6.) AstraGin

AstraGin is a 100 % natural product that is a mixture of two finely fractionated plant extracts, carefully blended. Panax notoginseng and Astragalus membranous are these plant extracts. Within the traditional medicine culture, ginseng and Astragalus are very strong and well respected herbs. Along with other supplements AstraGin helps with recovery and even injuries [7].

Interested in trying the health benefits of these powerful all natural extracts for yourself? Advanced High Absorption Curcumin Boswellia Complex for Arthritis Pain is BioWOW’s premier joint strength and mobility supplement and is designed to deliver all the benefits you just read about.

Collagen, Vitamin C, & Vitamin E

Aging is an inevitable process. But there are times where we notice that we’ve aged more than we expected. Why is it that some people age faster than others? It depends on several factors like psychological stress, continuous exposure to UV light, overworking, and more. Anti-aging supplements can be helpful to slow the aging process. Aging becomes more noticeable when the appearance of the skin changes. Sagging, pigmentation, wrinkling, and many other skin changes may appear as a result of aging.

Sagging and wrinkling of the skin mainly occurs as a consequence of collagen breakdown. Collagen is the main fibrous protein in our skin. It helps to hold the dermis and epidermis. Collagen is also responsible for providing protein to bind the skin structures to nearby muscles. As humans age, collagen becomes less strong, and UV radiation and free radical formation break down the collagen.

As humans age, we are more prone to getting inflammatory joint problems like rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is also another condition that happens mainly due to excessive movement in the joints. Destruction of collagen proteins in the joints and inflammatory mediators connecting to the joints can lead to chronic joint pain and deformities as well.

Pigmentation is a direct effect on UV radiation. UV A and B radiation damages our skin cells. As a protective mechanism our skin cells produce more melanin. Since melanin is the substance that brings dark color to the skin, dark skin is more protected against UV radiation compared to people with fair skin. UV radiation can cause unpleasant patchy discoloration on the skin.

Reactive Oxygen Species ( ROS ) is also responsible for changes in aging. ROS is produced as a by-product of cellular metabolism. Hydroxyl ions, nitric oxide ions, and peroxide ions are some these ROSs. They can damage healthy cells by oxidizing proteins and lipids in cell membranes. When we are young, our bodies can fight these ROS by excessively producing antioxidants. However, as we get older, this ability gradually reduces. Non communicable diseases like diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular events are more common with age. All of these complications occur mainly as a result of excess inflammation going in the body as a result of ROS.

Supplements can be used to overcome these problems and promote anti aging. Collagen, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E are especially helpful to restore that youthful glow. The best part is, all of these supplements are all natural! They have less side effects than traditional prescription drugs. They also have a great bioavailability which makes them effective treatments for anti-aging.

          Collagen

  • Gives adequate nutrition to the skin.
  • Promote skin hydration.
  • Improves skin elasticity and density.
  • Reduce skin roughness.

          Vitamin C

  • A co-factor in production of collagen endogenously.
  • An antioxidant as a protection from UV light
  • Promote genetic production of antioxidants.
  • Improves wound healing and reduce scar formation.
  • Provide protection from neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease
  • Improves body immunity.
  • Reduce atherosclerosis and control the incidences of cardiovascular events and cerebrovascular accidents.

          Vitamin E

  • Strengthen the keratin layer of the skin to protect skin from UV light.
  • Reduce atherosclerosis
  • Reduce oxidative stress and provide protection over rheumatoid arthritis like inflammatory joint diseases
  • Protective against cataract and certain types of cancers.

Living with arthritis or indeed, any form of chronic inflammation can be quite disconcerting and disruptive to one’s life.

Arthritis is an autoimmune and sometimes degenerative  condition, meaning that the symptoms generally worsen over time, characterized by inflammatory flares and typically running a chronic clinical course.

It is imperative therefore, to take very good care of yourself in order to as much as possible, relieve the pain, improve function, as well as successfully cope with the associated difficult emotions.

As a matter of fact, for people living with arthritis, experts recommend not only medication, but also non-drug treatments. Some of these methods include:

          1.) Dietary Modifications

          2.) Weight Loss

          3.) Physical Therapy

4.) Complementary Therapies (like acupuncture, hot and cold therapy massage, etc.)

Of the recommended dietary changes, one which comes strongly recommended is turmeric (Curcuma longa).

Turmeric is a herb that has been in use for long in Ayurvedic medicine, which is a traditional system of treatment in India.

It predominantly contains curcuminoids, a class of compounds which may be of help in reducing pain from arthritis, as also improve cholesterol levels, and regulate blood sugar levels, among other benefits.

Research suggests that turmeric and its components are potentially able to alleviate arthritis inflammation and pain. [1][2]

Several studies suggest that curcumin may provide relief for some individuals with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and other inflammatory arthritic conditions. [3][4]

The drawback may be in the fact that Curcumin accounts for only about 3-5% of turmeric, which means that the individual with arthritis would need to ingest more of it than is available in the regular diet, hence the recommendation for dietary supplementation (95% Curcumin Extract is the standard).

These Curcumin supplements usually comprise of curcumin (diferuloylmethane), and other chemicals which are found naturally in turmeric, including demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin, and these compounds are believed to possess potent anti-inflammatory properties.

How 95% Curcumin Extract Helps To Fight Inflammation:

A lot of studies have been cited which support the anti inflammatory effects of Curcumin. So how does it work?

          1. Curcumin Is An Antioxidant

Researchers suspect that certain types of inflammatory tissue injury including painful arthritis inflammation, are mediated by reactive free radicals in the body.  These free radicals lead to oxidative stress, which is also linked to inflammation. Therefore, foods like turmeric which are rich in antioxidants are great for neutralizing free radicals.

          2. Curcumin Acts As A TNF-Inhibitor

TNF is a protein produced by the immune system which contributes to inflammation. Curcumin may help to suppress the body’s response to tumor necrosis factor (TNF). [5] Research is still ongoing regarding Curcumin’s role in inhibiting TNF as this is as yet, not fully understood.

          3. Curcumin Acts As A COX Inhibitor

Typical drugs used in pain relief such as ibuprofen, (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) act by blocking the effects of COX-2 enzymes which influence inflammation that can result in pain. Curcumin posesses the chemical properties of a COX inhibitor and is able to provide reasonable pain relief. [6]

5 Ingredients To Pair With Curcumin Extract To Blast Away Arthritis Pain:

As much as curcumin holds a lot of promise as a therapeutic agent for the prevention and treatment of several disorders, its major drawback is its poor bioavailability, majorly due to its poor absorption, chemical instability, rapid metabolism, and rapid systemic elimination. [7]

Therefore, efforts have been made to enhance its efficacy by increasing the bioavailability. This is achieved through pairing it with other ingredients.

Some of these include:

          1. BioPerine

Bioperine is a patented extract from black pepper which is standardized to contain 95% of piperine.

Consuming  curcumin with piperine enhances the absorption of curcumin by up to 2,000%, by inhibiting a reaction in the body which eliminates curcuminoids. [8]

The best and very effective curcumin supplements there are, usually contain piperine.

          2. Boswellia Serrata

Combining Curcumin with Boswellic acids which are gotten from the Boswellia Serrata plant gum is another way to enhance the bioavailability through increasing the absorption of the active components of the herb, as it makes it water and lipid soluble.

This increase can be up to 185 times compared to standard extracts. [9]

          3. AstraGin

AstraGin is a patented, completely natural plant extract which enhances absorption of nutrients, and promotes a healthy gut environment.

Consuming curcumin supplements together with an absorption-boosting supplement like AstraGin® has been shown to boost its uptake by up to 90% with no side effects.

          4. Meriva

Curcumin is better absorbed when taken with a high fat meal.

Meriva is a patented formulation of turmeric extract with lecithin, which is a type of fat that has been shown to improve curcumin absorption in humans by up to 29 times, compared to other extracts. [10]

This type of fat is also found in foods such as soybeans and eggs.

          5. Fenugreek

Curcumin’s absorption and efficiency is also enhanced when taken with a high fibre nutrient like Fenugreek seeds.

There is a type of fiber from fenugreek seeds known as galactomannans, which improve the absorption of curcuminoids. [11][12]

This combination allows slow absorption of the colloidal curcuminoids as they are released into the intestines, thereby delivering the greatest amounts of ‘free curcuminoids’ to the blood-stream.

The Bottom Line:

Turmeric is a potent herb that may be beneficial for inflammation arthritis and other conditions. Due to its poor bioavailability, it’s best taken together with ingredients that enhance its bioavailability and efficacy.
